Writer's Profile Relfection

Who Am I as a Writer?

As I writer, I would say I'm still learning. Writing has always been a big part of my life and it's something I've done for fun as well as in school. Writing and I have had a love/hate relationship over the years. I hated it a lot in high school with all the academic writing I was required to do especially senior year in my AP Literature class. When I came to college, I was really nervous about the quality of my writing and whether or not it would measure up to a college level. In high school, I always felt that whatever I wrote wasn't good enough and never felt satisfied or accomplished with a completed assignment. I was always frustrated over it and compared myself to others alot. With my experience in UWRT 1101 and 1102, my feelings towards writing definately slowly began to change. I started to love it again and felt like it was more of a creative outlet rather than just something else I had to do for homework. While I am still working on my relationship with writing, it's definately improved over the course of this year. I found the assignments and project acutally enjoyable and loved how I could incorporate the things I loved/have experienced into my writing like my Across the Universe rehtorical analysis project in 1101 or my single story narrative from 1102. It was assignments like these and getting to explore topics like inqury, genre remixes, and single stories that helped me tap back into that creative and scholasic type of writing rather than dreading DBQ's and prose responses. I became more comfortable with it also and actually starting liking not just what I was writing about but my actual writing also which was a big step for me. To finish something was an accomplishment and something I was proud of and liked what I wrote which hadn't really happened for me in high school. My experience in UWRT changed my view on writing to positive rather than negative and because of that I will go forward with a better outlook on writing throughout my academic career.
