Why is this such a big issue in today's society?

- positive body image encouraged

- confidence

Showing Women the Ways:

- not just talking but taking action

- showing women how to be "body confident"

- showing what "real" women and girls look like

People who talk about it are encouraging young women and girls to be "body confident"and people are taking action to enstill postive body image in women

"The Media and Eating Disorders"

The Media Encourages Self-Image Altering 

- eating disorders

- photo shopping

- plastic surgery

- fad diets 

- "beauty bloggers" 

But people still have negative body issues because of the idolized images of celebrities in magazines, media, music videos, movies, etc.

People are obsessed with altering their image. Even with being "body condfident" there are filters and alterations we are told to make of ourselves as a result of the "selfie culture."

Consequences of a Selfie Culture:
- obsession with "perfection"

- celebrities use instagram

- filters, altering apps

- the "explore page"

- "thinspiration"

- "thigh gaps"

- obsession with Barbie

The "unattainable" body is presented in all aspects of media and is idolized as something/someone that everyone should look like. It distorts the image of what a woman should look like and makes it become this high standard.
